PEDAL LIKE A DOG 2013So you think you’re fast. You’ve been bragging amongst your friends you smoked in your dust while you pump your calves away from them. You realized most of the time you kicked in your best, you’re left all alone because everyone else you ride with, is always playing catch up. All that means NOTHING. No proof. No talk. Period. You want the bragging rights? You want to show some ass kicking or get your own ass kicked back like karma? You want to claim you’re fast or you just want to know where the hell you stand amongst the rest? You can. Pedal Like A Dog. Literally. It’s just you against the time. Fastest time earns the reputation. Fastest time earns your bragging rights. Simple. No fancy prizes. No bullshit. Just some bad ass dog tags you will carry on till someone else take it away from you. Are you up for the pure raw muscle-powered challenge on two wheels? Previously, Yu Hanxiang pissed on everyone in the road/TT category by showing that his time is clearly for himself to beat and no one came close. Not at all. His record time… 6:19 for a distance of 4.5km. Jason Aloysius Anthony on the other hand, showed how it’s done in the fixed gear category beating Nirwan Amid by a mere ONE second with a time of 7:00 FLAT. Some said that Nirwan could’ve won but was distracted by a naked man at the halfway mark of the course. But losing is losing and Jason holds the dog tag. Will he retain his reputation?Think Yu Hanxiang and Jason don’t deserve to be keeping the dog tags? Do it. Burn them. Silence them. Smash their egos to smithereens.DATE: 25 May 2013TIME: 1900 hrsMEETUP : Ex-Seletar Camp Carpark near Jln KayuENTRY FEE: Not RequiredRegistration opens on 29 April 2013 and closes on 10 May 2013Register by e-mail at emailtheacid@gmail.com (yes the email is like that)Subject: Registration Pedal Like A Dog 2013NAME: Apopo bin BapaknyeNRIC: S1234567XCATEGORY: ROAD/TT OR FIXEDYou can also register for your companions. So what are you waiting for? Saving the best for the last, 6th April 2013 is the date that
Zachery Ahmad will remember. He’s the winner of the 2013 King Of The Hill organized by Kayuh Kuat Kuat with an amazing time of 58 seconds. Curiosity kills. So we decide to dig some info from him.

Tell us more about yourself.
My Name is Zachary. i am 18 this year. I’m currently schooling, i just got accepted  in Republic Polytechnic.

Do you belong to any team & what are the experience being a part of the team?
I am part of the MonsterFixed Team. Back then, MonsterFixed mostly consist of hearing impaired riders. That is something unique about MFXD. Now the group has expanded, including other riders like myself and more. The experience was something to get use to. For example communicating. we had to learn basic sign language to talk. Overall they are just great especially when it comes to mashing on our bikes.

How did you get into fixed gear cycling?
I got into fixed gear cycling when i was still skateboarding. I was at scape, back then when i saw a group of cyclist came in. they were riding those bikes I’ve never really seen before. then turns out one of them is friend. and what not , i borrowed his bike for a spin. It was totally a different form of cycling. From that day i just had to get one. I do not know how long i saved and waited to get my bike, but i got a simple pre owned bike. From then on i kept on cycling. I also get to know more about the fixed gear scene through CrankArmSteady. Then it just goes on. cycling is like a drug i can’t stop.

Encouragement and support, where do they come from?
All the encouragement and support came from Friends. Friends, we kept pushing each other saying we can do it you know saying things like “is all about the mindset” telling each other we can do it. Family wise, my mother was always concerned about my safety. you know the roads are dangerous and so on. But I always let her know we ride in group so its much safer. Thank god, all the time I’m cycling, I reached home safely till this day and makes my mom more reassured that I’m always careful on the road.

What are your cycling routine and what prep did you took to be at your best for King Of The Hill 2013?
Well to tell you the truth, there is no serious preparation for the king of the hill. I just cycle with my friends, at times just mash around, mash up fly overs you know just keeping the legs moving. well the only training was the day after the location was announced. I did 4 laps up and down the hill with one of my team mate and friends. The next day is resting day and on the event day i just burst out all the way to the top.

Tell us the felling & adrenaline rush when your name is being announced for the 1st placing of KOTH 2013.
Well the feeling was amazing simply because i didn’t expect much. i thought i was a little slow for top 3. But With my mother being there, seeing me race for the very first time and knowing that her son won 1st place, i just can’t describe how it felt.

What are your last words?
I would like to thank kayuh kuat kuat and all those who are involved for organising this great event which i look forward to again and try to defend the title if i could. I would like to thank my team, MFXD for being there, friends form LSF (lapsap fixed) , Fixupyourgear, basically everyone i know! you guys are awesome! A special thanks to Eric and his brother for helping me building up the bike that i won! Its riding Great now!

To all riders ride safe and “KEEP ON PEDALLING MANZ” I remember that particular quote from the CAS soundtrack if I’m not wrong.

Wet weather conditioning.

The fixed gear scene in singapore has became popular and attracted many new faces. Through group rides and competitions, we’re able expand the friendship ties. So we met up with Hafiz Sulaiman and did a short interview with him on his very first competition.

Tell us more about yourself.
Im 30, just got married earlier tis year in January and currently right now pursuing my safety course just quit my previous job as a boutique sales executive at Officine Panerai wanted to spend more quality time at home with family.

Do you belong to any team & How did the team came about?
We were never really from any team nor group. By chance I realised that since everyone of us is from the western/northern part of spore it would be great if we could ride togather. The group grew in numbers estatically(currently 13 total). The name Bagood( a term derived from Bagus + Good) was just a random term used by me and sumhow along e way it became attached to us. We had to change it so that others cld understand e meaning wit a twist of indo humor. “Bagood Punya” lol

How do you get into fixed gear cycling?
Well basically e idea came about wen suddenly me n Nasir decided to start riding as a form of keeping fit. We chance upon tis addictive website called Togoparts and was ecstatic by how afordable e fixie bike was. Initally e both of us hate to join e fixie industry as I deemed it childish n annoying. But upon looking at sum serious BikePorn of Fixie yeah we nvr stop till then. Funny thing was that we both got our first bike on e same day n rode home togather. I almost regret after buying e bike as ther was apparently no brakes and i dnt even knw how to stop e bike. Almost crash it at Queenstown! 1 word DAMN…

What are your cycling routine and what made you decide to join KOTH 2013?
There wasnt actually any routine fer me all roads re e same but e most important thing or aspect is e person ur riding with tat matters the most e company ur in. Idea came about after waching old Tour De France videos and dorning the Polka Jersey which means King Of The Mountain i love polka dots tts y!

What was going through your mind 5 seconds before the climb?
It was pure Focus running thru my mind. I was actually aiming for 1.40s and below koz e previous few training I can only clocked 3:00 , 2:04(vommited) lol. Didnt expect i did better den expected.

Tell us your experience of joining your first Fixed Gear Competition and if there’s any upcoming competition, would you be interested to join?
I wouldn’t deny the pressure, e training, e pain and atmosphere was actually a healthy and positive form of experience to me. It definitely triggers me to push myself more in the next upcoming event to come.

What are your last words?
I really want to thank my family for giving me the support i needed especially my lovely wife. And most importantly Team Bagood for the encouragement n support they gave to me. Almost everyone was involved in helping me recce sum hill spots fer e race n yes indeed we were spot on for e KOTH event. And thank you so much fer giving me e time to do tis report up.
